Brookhaven Hamlet harbors 16 historic cemeteries that are the resting places of the early settlers of The Fire Place, as our community was originally called.

In 2007, the Fire Place History Club began to restore these cemeteries by locating, identifying and repairing the gravestones. In support of these efforts by the club’s dedicated volunteers, the Brookhaven Village Association established the Historic Cemetery Preservation Fund. The fund restored/repaired all cemeteries in the local area and is pursuing other projects of historic importance in the community. The Fund was renamed the Hamlet Historic Fund which accurately reflects the expanded scope of the fund. The BHF is now administering the fund and all donations are tax-deductible.
